The UMaine freshman makes his college debut in the last city he last played

It’s kind of a return home to the University of Maine freshman right for Nolan Renwick as he makes his student debut on the road against the University of Nebraska at Omaha on Friday night.

Renwick played the previous two seasons in the U.S. Junior Hockey League in Omaha Lancers.

It’s going to be a great experience, said Renwick, who has played on UMaines ’top line with Ben Poisson and Adam Dawe.

I never imagined this when I played juniors, he added.

Renwick, 20, from Milestone, Saskatchewan, enjoyed his time in Omaha and said he met a lot of great people there.

Renwick said that while he certainly knows the city, the Lancers play at Ralston Arena, which is 13 miles from Baxter Arena, where the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks play.

He played an excellent season with the Lancers a year ago when he made 22 matches and made 19 assists with 41 points in 55 matches.

The 6-legged 196-pound Renwick had three goals and seven assists 10 points in 40 matches in the previous season.

Renwick said he enjoys moving to college hockey, and so far he has impressed first-year head coach Ben Barri and his teammates.

He’s a good, big striker who takes advantage of his size. And he has good skills, said senior Dawe.

He is a very good player, Barr said. He can play anywhere because he is in such good shape. He knows how to skate, he works hard and is a very responsible player. His crime will improve over time.

UMaine lost the show game to Quinnpiac 7-0 last Saturday, and the Black Bears will host the Mavericks, which ranks 17th in the country.

UNO resigned from Lake Superior State last weekend and lost 4-3 in overtime and won 3-0.

Fifth-year coach Mike Gabinets Mavericks, who was selected fifth in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s pre-media poll, is led by Chayse Primeau, who had nine goals and 14 assists a year ago, Tyler Weiss (7 and 16), Taylor Ward (13 and 9), defender Brandon Scanlin ( 2 and 15) and goalkeeper Isaiah Saville (12-11-1, 3.03 goals on average, 907 rebounds).

UNO was 14-11-1 last season and reached its first NCAA tournament since 2015.
