Men’s tennis turns back to Wheaton, 5-4

NORTON, Massa (October 7, 2021) – Stonehill College ended its fall non-conference schedule with a 5-4 win over Wheaton College in men’s tennis on Clark’s tennis courts this afternoon.

• Junior Luke Nickerson achieved Stonehill’s match victory by fighting Wheaton’s freshman Karl von Weissenbeck number 5 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
• Second year student Louis Coppi was a two-time winner to lead Stonehill. He and the freshman Guillaume Duhil de Bénazé took Skyhawks ’first doubles point by winning an 8-2 win in No. 2. Coppi won this 6-0, 6-3 victory in number one against 4 Wheaton juniors Ethan Na The Skyhawks led 4-1 at the time.
• Wheaton fought back to tie the match with 4-4 wins and numbers 1, 2 and 3. Senior Ian Tracy and junior Josh Anshuetz were double winners for Lyons initially by winning Lyon’s lone double point by winning 8-3 with win # 1. Anshuetz followed 6-3, 6-4 wins in No. 2 singles against Stonehill junior Christian Duffy pull the Lyons to the point after Tracy had won Game 1.
• Senior Albert Ortega Campos leveled the match with a three-set victory against Stonehill at the age of five Trent Newman No. 3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-0, 6-1.
• Junior Ben Simmons added a single win to Stonehill, while Newman and seniors Juan Camilo Riano Rojas won No. 3 doubles.

Coppi beat Skyhawks twice

Stonehill (4-0, 0-0 NE10) will announce a spring NE10 championship calendar in the coming weeks. Wheaton (0-3, 0-0 NEWMAC) will be off until February in an out-of-conference match at Endicott College on February 26th.
