Matt Nagy: Damien Williams ’big gaming experience brings a sense of serenity

When the Bears signed Damien Williams this interim, they explained the complementary role they wanted him to play behind David Montgomery. But they knew he could carry the burden when needed. With the Chiefs, he made six touches in the 2019 playoffs and became the first player to have ever run 100 yards and scored a goal in the Super Bowl.

The Bears is expected to put the injured knee on Saturday for David Montgomery, who has a knee sprain. He then missed at least three games. Williams will start against the Raiders on Sunday.

When you go back and say, “OK, great moments he played on a big time stage and did great plays,” Bears coach Matt Nagy said. So I think the players know it, the coaches know there’s a calm feeling knowing that in a situation like this he can step in.

Nagy hinted that beginner Khalil Herbert could get six and ten positions behind Williams.
