ST. PETER-Newly crowned Section 2 girls tennis team champion and Class A state qualifier Fairmont continued their wins on Friday on the first day of a personal tournament at Swanson Indoor Tennis Center on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus.

All four Fairmont participants, as well as one single net and one twin team from the Blue Earth Area, received the individual semi-finals of nine mornings coming Wednesday back inside the St. Peter’s dome-shaped building.

“Our girls were playing with confidence as they became the first (Fairmont girls’ tennis) team to reach the state tournament in 25 years on Thursday,” said Cardinals head coach Laura Olsen. “I hope we can continue this momentum next week.”

Fairmont teammates Claire Nemmers and Briana Joseph hit Gustav Adolf’s pitch on opposite sides of the raised viewing area in a partial semi-final doubles event over the second day, while cardinals ’tandem twins Libby and Maggy Totzke and Ellie Hernes and Lauren Davis are up on Wednesday.

Only two singles nets and two doubles combinations from each block advance to the Class A single state tournament, which begins at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 and ends Friday, Oct. 29 at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Nemmers, who won No. 2 cross-section seeds and first-round throws, will face Blue Earth Area Series No. 3 seed against Marissa Benz in a second-day singles game. Nemmers only needed dozens of baker games to eliminate Brooke Zollner of Redwood Valley in the quarterfinals on Friday 6-0, 6-1.

Benz won the semifinals by closing Maple River in Leah Proehl’s straight series, 6-0, 6-0, in the opening round before crossing the River Valley in Kaydince Thoms ’wireless slugfest, 7-6, 7 -5.

Joseph, who won No. 5 seeds, reached the semifinals by opening up 6-0 series wins against United South Central’s Brylee Neubauer before beating the River Valley Brooklyn Moldan 6-1, 6- 1 quarter-finals.

Joseph will face 1st and state-placed Jaelyn Haler of the St. James Area on Wednesday in a semi-final battle at the Swanson Tennis Center. Haler earned a first-round throw before eliminating Blue Earth Area from Addison Armstrong in the semifinals 6-3, 6-1.

Armstrong won the semifinals when he defeated Kayla Berg of Maple River.

In the Series No. 2A singles series, No. 5 Seeds, Libby Totzke and Maggy Totzke will face No. 1 Seeds in Wednesday’s semi-finals of Sailor Mohlenbrock and Allison Bluedorn of St. James Area at the Swanson Tennis Center.

Totzke’s siblings on Friday opened a 6-1, 6-1 victory over USC’s Elizabeth Romano and Lauren Hansen before defeating Maple River’s Macy Sohre and Ally Mersman in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-0.

Mohlenbrock and Bluedorn, who made the first round throw, crossed Blue Earth in the semi-finals of Grace Hanson and Ella Survis 6-3, 6-4.

Hanson and Survis advanced to the second round by offering a 6-1, 7-5 loss to Ella Stoneberg and Mila Jenniges of Redwood Valley.

Third-place Ellie Hernes and Lauren Davis will face second-placed Kylie Rosenau and Olivia Dutton from the Blue Earth Area in Wednesday’s singles semifinals at St.

Hernes and Davis lost Redwood Valley’s Avery Wilson and Anneliese Hammer by winning 6-0 wins in the first round before they needed a third set in the quarterfinals to get Day 2.

James Area Area’s Keyana Haler and Eva Romsdahl claimed the first set 6-4 before Davis and Hernes flipped the score as they cuped the second segment 6-4. Davis and Hernes then made three consecutive wins and fixed the third-round win 6-2.

Rosenau and Dutton, who won the first-round throw, combined the court’s skills on the coast with a 6-1, 6-1 quarter-final victory against USC’s Macy Zebro and Maya Zebro.
