PARKER – Palmer Ridge football blurred in the first half and threw Ponderosa with three touches.
The Bears never gave up in a wild comeback win, 35-28, on Friday night at Echo Park Stadium. No. 5 Palmer Ridge (6-1) scored five goals in the second half as senior Connor Cook ran towards the end of the final quarter.
No. 8 Ponderosa (5-2) opened the pair for the first quarterback Andrew Heidel with a pair of touchdown passes for old wide receiver Alex Tongren. Its defense was also repressive.
Palmer Ridge’s attack came to a halt after two failed fourth-attempt attempts in the first half. Second-quarter quarterback Derek Hester abducted Mustangs senior goalkeeper Brady Porterin twice, including picking six for a 21-0 Ponderosa lead in the half. The bears didn’t stop.
Palmer Ridge opened the third quarter at young Orlando Aranda. Bears senior defender Anthony Costanzo then cut Heidel Ponderosas into the next possession. Cook added another touch to path 21-14.
The Mustangs pulled forward by 14 points when senior runner Zach Pekarek found the finish area. But Ponderosas ’pace was short-lived.
Palmer Ridge’s attack could not be stopped in the fourth quarter. Hester connected to a junior wide receiver in contact with KC Fackrell. Cook then made two more rush paintings to put the game away.
