Not even Alabama is immune to the shocking plane of College Footballs

Earlier this year, Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher made a playful declaration.

He was asked at the Houston Touchdown Club which would be the key to anything other than Nick Saban’s retirement to eventually defeat Alabama. In response, Fisher jokingly assured that Aggies would beat Crimson Tide Saban still at the helm.

Reporters told Saban about the fishermen’s comment the next day and asked him what he was thinking.

In golf? Saban said sarcastically.

Five months later, the two coaches met at College Station, Texas. Fishers unranked Aggies lost two straight losses. Sabans Crimson Tide was invincible at the top of national rankings. And in front of thousands of fans at Kyle Stadium on Saturday night, the fishermen’s off-season words came true. Texas A&M amazed Alabama, 41-38, on the promenade, handing over Crimson Tide’s first loss since November 2019 and sealing Aggies ’biggest win in the Fisher era.

It was Aggies ’first victory over Alabama since Johnny Manziel, who was on the Texas A&M side line on Saturday, led the team past Crimson Tide in 2012. And this was the first time one of Sabans’ former assistants (Fisher was Louisiana State Offensive) led by coordinator Saban In the early 2000s) was the most successful.

Aggies did it with backup Zach Calzada, who took on the role after starter Haynes King fell in week 2 against Colorado.

Calzada made 21 passes out of 31 with 285 yards and scored three goals in a single interception.

At the end of the fourth quarter, Alabama attacked from behind and took the lead 38-31 when Young found a wide receiver with Jameson Williams exposed in the finish area. Young hit Williams in a two-point transformation that led to the lead.

Calzada responded by easily directing Aggies down to the field, and he limited the position to 25 yards for pennies to tie to Ainias Smith.

After that, the Aggies defense, which looked exhausted on the fourth field after most of the second half, got the biggest stop of the season and forced Alabama to pound.

Calzada was hit in the left knee when he released the ball on binding, but returned to the game for the next possession of Texas A & Ms after briefly going to the medical tent and moving Aggies to the field goal position.

He didn’t know the game was a touch, Fisher said of Calzada after the game. He smiled and went back inside. He was fine. And that’s it. That’s what football is. Rises from the cloth. You have to go play. You get the hell out of you. You have to go play the next play. People don’t care.

With a second left in the game, the Seth Smalls kick crept through the left upright and cut Alabamas ’19-match winning streak.

Texas A&M put pressure on and blew up Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, also a favorite of the Heisman Trophy, early and often. The Aggies defense resigned from Young three times during the first half and abducted him early in the second quarter.

Texas A&M used it and the first quarter fumble by launching Brian Robinson to take the 24-10 halftime.

At the beginning of the third quarter, it seemed for just a few minutes that Alabama might be coming back to victory.

When Alabamas JaCorey Brooks stopped the Texas A&M station with their own 18, Alabamas JaCorey Brooks blocked Nik Constantinous’s punt attempt, and linebacker King Mwikuta took the ball back in the end zone for contact, leading Aggies to a single point.

However, the Crimson Tides had little time to celebrate. In the early stages, Texas A&Ms Devon Achane drove the kick back to the 96-yard touch. The Aggies lead swelled back to 14.

Then, in Alabamas ’next possession, Young found Williams’ 29-yard score to get Alabama back in touch. The second-year quarterback ended the match with 369 yards, three touches, an abduction and the first loss of his young career.

Alabama is now waiting for the next one Associated Press 25 Best College Football Vote to see how far it falls and gives fans new feed for the claims that will lead to the first College Football Playoff list later this season.

And Texas A&M is sure to come back to the media poll where it was before the losses to Arkansas and the state of Mississippi.

We can be special if we allow ourselves, Fisher said on the CBS broadcast after the game, his voice cracking and Texas A&M fans raging behind him.
