Madiwala police have arrested three people who ran a cricket betting association through a mobile app.

This is the first case to be registered under the amended Karnataka Police Act since the government passed a law that recently banned all online gaming, including betting and gambling.

Police have confiscated a car, a bicycle and 59,000 rubles in cash from Balachandra, 30, Ravi Kumar, 28, and Penni Chetan, 28, from the trio. All in all, they got back items worth 10.41 million rubles from them.

Balachandran lives in JP Nagar, while Kumar and Chetan live in Kasturba Nagar and Horamavu.

On October 7, Madiwala Police Inspector Suneel Y Naik, who was under night surveillance, received information about the betting.

A police team went to the scene to look for a trio in the room who organized bets on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – Rajasthan Royals (RR) match.

The trio used the mobile app to make offers to specific teams and collected payments through UPI transactions and in cash.

We will check how long they have been involved in the betting and which of their partners have taken further action, said the investigating officer.
