Women’s tennis round in both A and B raffle in the NEWITT pair tournament

SOUTH-HADLEY, mass. Wesleyan’s women’s tennis team spent a perfect weekend and advanced to the A and B draw field of the NEWITT doubles tournament for the final matches of all the cardinals on both flights. Instead of the cardinals fighting each other for the championship, the cardinals decided not to play matches and instead were named co-winner.

On flight A, the fourth was sown Sasha Gaeth ’23 and Kristina Yu ’22, fresh in their run to the ITA New England Regional final, rolled past Friedman / Lendel Amherst in the opening round before winning Parlman / Mu of Wellesley and starting a big match with the best double team in the industry (Buzkin / Kintiroglou of Amherst). Gaeth and Yu continued their incredible run and defeated Mammoth’s top team to earn a spot in the final.

On the other side of the A-draw, placed third Caitlyn Ferrante ’23 and Katie Fleischman ’23 won Winter / Carrero in the opening round and later won Cui / Hart of Amherst. In the semi-finals, they beat their teammates Renna Mohsen-Breen ’25 and Serim Jin ’23 to earn a place in the finals, where they were named champions along with Gaeth and Yun. Mohsen-Breen and Jin overtook Babson’s Soffer / Moschella and won a shocking victory over MIT’s second-placed Pertsemlidis / Liao to earn a place in the entire Wesleyan semifinals.

On flight B. Nika Vesely ’25 collaborated Alexis Almy ’22 to a deep run as the top team in the raffle toured the semifinals, where they beat MIT’s Fernandez / Dong to place another Cardinal doubles final. At the opposite end of the bracket, Kriti Williams ’24, Caitlin Goldberg ’23 and Sophie Henderson ’22 combined with different pairs throughout the fork and gone past Berler / Henry (Endicott), Stouch / Wang (Babson) and Sha / Sivrak (Amherst) to earn the final and co-championship with the Vesely / Alex team.
