Dodgers Walker Buehler starts a short rest period for NLDS Game 4 vs. Giants

With no margin of error and the Dodgers to win to keep their season alive, they will start Walker Buehler in the fourth game of the National League Division on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Hell be pitching three days of rest for the first time in his career.

Buehler threw 99 throws in six innings in the 1st game on Friday in San Francisco, with three wins to a loss. This start was his second consecutive four-day break, done on 14 of the 34 starts this season. During his major league career, only 27 of his 106 starts have come to a four-day break, with the other 79 starts coming in between five or more holidays.

The five-game Division Series format is at least suitable for considering a beginner with a three-day break. Once the two holidays are included in the schedule, the Dodgers can turn to Julio Uras, a newcomer to Game 2, on a regular basis and take a four-day break in Game 5. But first, they have to win Game 4.

Everything is on the table, manager Dave Roberts said after a 1-0 loss to the Dodgers in Game 3. We’ll focus on tomorrow and any win tomorrow, and then pick up the pieces after that.

Buehler had an 2.47 ERA and 3.16 FIP with 212 strokes this season, raising career highs in innings (207) and starts (33). At the start of Game 1, his odometer is up to 214 days a year. So hell will probably get help from game 4.

On a holiday between games 4 and 5, the Dodgers can be aggressive with their bull bottles. Blake Treinen and Kenley Jansen were the only Dodgers relievers on Monday, throwing 15 and 14 throws, the only appearance in the last five days for both pitchers. Dodgers also has some Tony Gonsol available if they need some length.

I’m not sure yet what the whole role will be, but I’m just ready to go there and throw in, Gonsolin said Monday. And when the doctor says I’m done, I’m done.

But first, the Dodgers need Buehler’s innings, which they’ve relied on all season.

I think he does what he has all year round. He throws the ball really well, Albert Pujols said Buehler on Monday. I know he’s coming out for a short rest, but I think he’s going to be pretty excited and the fans are really excited.
