DUBAI: Pakistani skipper Babar Azam is convinced that his party will beat its rivals in its inaugural match in India T20 World Cup as it has become more familiar with the circumstances, as he has played mainly in the United Arab Emirates for the past three to four years.
Pakistan faces India at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 24th. They are planning a match program behind an unbeaten record after recording six T20I wins here.
-We have been playing cricket in the UAE for the last 3-4 years and we know the conditions really well, Azam said. ICC.
“We know how the racket behaves and the adjustments have to be made by the batsmen. The day that plays better cricket wins the match. If asked, we will win,” added the star player, who plans to play his first T20 World Cup and will make his debut as captain.
The two sides made the United Arab Emirates their home after international teams showed reluctance to circumvent Pakistan due to security concerns following the 2009 terrorist attack by a Sri Lankan team.
Pakistan has never won a World Cup match in both the ODI and T20I series against India, but Azam is at ease saying it is a thing of the past.
“We know the pressures and intensity of every game, especially the first game. Hopefully we can win the match and take the momentum forward.
“Your faith and trust in the team matters a lot before the tournament. As a team, our trust and morale are really high. We are not thinking about the past but the future. We are preparing for it.
“I’m pretty sure we’re well prepared and playing good cricket on the day,” he added.
Speaking on his site, which is a mix of youth and experience, Azam said: “All the players have come to the side after a good domestic performance.”
– We have a lot to learn from away players because they have so much experience, they have played World Cups and leagues before.
“7-8 team players have also played the Champions Trophy, highlighting a variety of self-confidence.”
Pakistan also has the services of a former Australian opening service Matthew Hayden and a South African pacemaker Vernon Philander, who have been appointed tournament batting and bowling consultants.
“Hayden and Philander bring a lot of experience. We try to learn from them as much as we can and quickly. The boys have the ability to be absorbed quickly and mingle with them.
“You can see that Philander has already started working hard with the bowlers, and you can see the previous record, the bowlers are winning the tournament for you. Hasan Ali was our best bowler in the Champions Trophy. He will take the bowling team alongside,” said Azam.
