F1 jeopardizes teams with two triple titles and a record 23 races in 2022 Formula one

Formula 1 has confirmed its calendar for 2022, and there are 23 records. The program introduces teams to a potentially exhausting test: one race more than this year, but it takes less time and includes two triple titles.

The calendar will be ratified by the World Motorsport Council on Friday. It will open in Bahrain on March 20 and end in Abu Dhabi on November 20 for 36 weeks. This year, the season ends in Abu Dhabi 12.

Miami will host its first race, while China is not on display due to coronavirus restrictions, and Imola is scheduled to replace it. Australia, Japan, Canada and Singapore are due to return after leaving the last two seasons due to the pandemic. The British GP will be held in Silverstone on July 3rd. The two triple headings are Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy, followed by Russia, Singapore and Japan.

The teams have approved the calendar and were aware of the requirements it places on their staff when they did so. In 2018, when F1 held its first triple head, the paddock’s opinion was almost unanimous that it burdened engineers, mechanics, and crew who work regularly on 12-14 hour days and cannot be accepted. It wasn’t in 2019, but to complete the season after the Covid-19 epidemic, triple titles were adopted in 2020 and again this year to host 22 races.

However, the unrest in the following triple headings is clear. Last week, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said he believed the F1 and FIA should order staff rotation to force teams to give their staff time out of physical and mental health pressures. If it were a team requirement, the financial burden would be the same everywhere in the paddock and would eliminate the possibility that the team would not want to do so to save money.

Twenty-three races with a triple title pay off, he said. Now you can adopt the old style mentality and say: Well, be happy to be in F1, and if you don’t survive, do something else that goes against my way of doing things. We need an environment where it becomes sustainable.

McLarens team principal Andreas Seidl was equally critical after F1 tripled in September. The bottom line is that we don’t increase the number of competitions a year, he said. What we have in place now is already too much of a burden for our people. We should avoid triple headlines.

This week, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner demanded the sport survive. You could go to Formula 2 and do 12 races and earn half the money, he said. It’s manageable if we go to the right venues in the right order around the world.
