Michigan swept No. 3 in Wisconsin onto a weekend apartment

Wolverines fell 11-6 despite fighting the Badgers.
Jess Mruzik led Michigan by 10 kills.

ANN ARBOR, me. -Despite hard efforts, the University of Michigan volleyball team fell in live series (23-25, 15-25, 24-26) on Saturday night (October 16) at the Crisler Center against No. 1 in Wisconsin.

Second year student Jess Mruzik led the Wolverines to kills and digs, finally 10 and eight. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a significant contribution to the front line of dynamic junior duos May Pertofsky and Jess Robinson, each ending in six blocks. Pertofsky added three service aces and Robinson dropped seven kills.

Both teams faced 2178 Crisler Center audiences back and forth in battle to start the afternoon, recording 12 draws and three lead exchanges. Michigan never pulled more than three in the series, but was unable to pull the lead out when it mattered the most and dropped 25-23.

Wisconsin took control in the second set, leading from the first point and never looking back. The Badgers hit .393 and kept the Wolverines -032 on a cruise to a win of 15-15.

Set Three saw corn and blue return to their shape and even reached the set point threshold of 24-22. Wisconsin showed its national ranking No. 3 and won the match 26-24, winning four straight points.

Michigan ended the match with nearly twice as many blocks as Wisconsin (11-6), and had more service aces than the Badgers (6-3). However, Wolverines only hit a .111 match compared to Wisconsin’s .302 and held a side percentage of .554 Badgers .672.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will begin its journey to a rare Wednesday match when Wolverines meet Indiana in Bloomington on Wednesday (October 20) at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on B1G +.
