No. 9 The Huskers win the eighth straight with an Illinois sweep

Nebraska volleyball team No. 9 won their eighth victory Saturday night and swept Illinois 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19) at the Devaney Center. The huskers leading the conference are now 14-3 (8-0 Big Ten), while the Illinians are dropping 12-7 (4-4).

Nebraska is the first team this year to win a three-round loss to the UI. The win was for Huskers at 10th home this season.

Madi Kubik Gathered a brilliant attacking performance that matched his peak of the season for the third time with 19 kills .457 hitting to lead all players. He added six digs and in his service ace. Kubik has led the Huskers kills in eight consecutive matches.

Lindsay Krause also received seven kills in three blocks, and Lauren Stivrins got five kills when he hit .455 in two blocks.

Callie Schwarzenbach added three additional stops, elevating him to sixth career in block (392) in Nebraska in the era of rally points, after Brooke Delano ‘s 389 in 2007-11.

Lexi Rodriguez anchored Husker’s defense with 17 matches. Nicklin Hames He had 32 passes and 10 more digs in the block and an ace for his team’s best 10 double doubles this season. Kenzie Knuckles added six buttons and five passes in the evening.

NU hit .267 as a team and limited Illinois to .100. The Huskers also had an advantage in kills (42-30), picks (42-27), aces (3-1), and wells (52-37), while Illinois had an advantage (9-5).

Illini was led by seven kills per song by Kennedy Collins and Riana Terry. Wahoo, Neb., From Kyla Swanson and Megan Cooney each received six more, and Swanson added five blocks.

Set 1

Kubik made six kills to .500 when they hit the gate when Nebraska hit .121 as a team, keeping Illinois at .000. Illin had five blocks in the first set, led by three Swanson and Terry tracks.

The Huskers reached the 9-3 lead with a 5-0 round that included four kills from Kubik, who joined four of his first five swings. NU doubled Illin with a 12-6 Stivrins slide attack. Illini returned with 4-1 runs three blocks and a Swanson kill to cut it to 13-10, and after a media timeout, Schwarzenbach’s kill had spotted NU lead 15-11.

When Kubik finished again, Knuckles did so from the back row 17-12 for the Husker lead and the interface timeout. After a couple of Illin’s mistake and Kubik’s ace, the situation was 20-13 for the next break. Illinois rushed in a 3-0 run with a Terry kill, a Cooney ace and a Collins solo block, with NU taking a 23-19 timeout. Two late Illini service errors dismissed the Huskers, 25-21.

Set 2

The Huskers’ first six points came in kills that had spread to Krause, Knuckles, Stivrins and Kubik. NU hit .818 (9-0-11) to start, and a 3-0 run with two Illin errors and another Kubik kill — his 10th extended it to 13-6 on the first break. Kubik added three kills in favor of 17-10 Husker, and NU matched a seven-point margin again with an 20-13 Hames ace before the Illin timeout. NU beat Illinois 5-1 to close it with a Stivrins / Krause stop and a pair of Krause kills limiting the series, 25-15.

NU, who succeeded without an attacking foul in his first 17 swings, hit a series of .429. Kubik was awarded eight kills, for a total of 14 kills.

Set 3

Illinois took the 5-2 lead early before NU leveled it 5-5 in Illini’s service error and kills Kubik and Knuckles. Huskers 8-1 spurt enhanced a Lexi Sun to kill, an Anni Evans an ace and two erroneous Illin throws made the situation 13-7. Illinois couldn’t get any closer than the four end of the trip as NU worked toward sweeping. Kubik’s fifth kill from the series — and the 19th night — marked it 25-19.
