CAMDEN, NJ (AP) Ben Simmons trained for the first time this season with the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, but no decision was made on his season opener.
He was just one of the players, coach Doc Rivers said.
Simmons held a training camp and the early stages of the pre-season after off-season trade demand. The triple All-Star guard unexpectedly returned to the team on Monday. Once he had cleared the NBA health and safety protocols, Simmons was eligible to train.
The Sixers will open the season on Wednesday in New Orleans and play their home game on Friday against Brooklyn.
Rivers said hell wait and see Simmons state at the season opener.
Just looking at him I thought he was in good shape, Rivers said. Still not obviously a game format.
Simmons, the number one in the 2016 draft, was not on the ground when the practice was open to the media on Sunday, and the Sixers said the guard was expected to speak at some point this week.
The 25-year-old Australian has four years and $ 147 million left on the maximum contract.
