Late penalties for greed for loss of road traffic to Buckeyes

Michigan took the lead, 1 – 0, after a penalty 52 minutes into the match Sammi Woods paint, fourth of the season.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Student Sammi Woods scored his fourth goal of the season, but the 22nd-ranked University of Michigan women’s national football team dropped 2-1 against Ohio State on Sunday (October 17) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

A penalty was awarded after 85 minutes, and Buckeyes made the most of his chance to put Buckeyes up by another goal. Woods’s mark on the 52th minute proved to be a lone goal for Wolverines.

The state of Ohio (8-7-1, 3-4-1 Big Ten) had a first big chance in the match after 12 minutes when Brittany Duncan fired a Wolverine goalkeeper ‘s isolated shot. Hillary Beall to keep the Games goalless. For 20 minutes, OSU had a 6-3 lead in the series.

Michigan junior Lily Wolf checked the match after 27 minutes. In the 30th minute, he tried his luck from 25 yards, sending a shot that fell to the top of the six and tested the Buckeyes goalkeeper, but it went to the UM corner. A minute later, he took the trust service from a classmate Hannah Blake inside the box, but his efforts were pushed narrow to the right.

Wolverines dominated the last 20 minutes of the half and ended the opening period with 45 minutes in the 9-8 lead.

UM broke through in the 52th minute Kacey Lawrence went to the corner. Next ball from the senior Raleigh Loughman went to a classmate Nicki Hernandez near the line of contact. A back feed to Woods at the top of the six was taken home on the top shelf of the left foot, giving the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

The Buckeyes retreated to the level after 66 minutes when Beall nailed Kailyn Dudukovich’s shot. However, the rebound jumped behind Chloe Delyser, who finished the bottom right corner to level the match 1.

Michigan continued to control the course of the game in the latter part of the match, changing from parent to parent Shepherd of Sydney (72nd minute) and Blake (78th minute). After 85 minutes, a mistake by the home side’s left defense allowed Buckeyes to get through.

Beall guessed right when he jumped to the left, but Dudukovich shot the ball into the net and gave OSU a 2-1 lead after just a few minutes of play.

After the Buckeyes goal, UM had two set-up spots and three shots, but to no avail, as UM dropped the race 2-1.

Michigan won the afternoon at OSU 20-16, with Beall making a total of six fights in the finish.

Michigan returns home and concludes with regular season matches at UM Soccer Stadium. On Thursday (Oct. 21), Wolverines will host Penn State at 7 p.m. on FS1. UM’s last regular season game will be played on Sunday (October 24) when Maryland comes to Ann Arbor for a noon match.
