Women’s Tennis Review: HEB Women’s Pro Tennis Open

Austin, Texas -DropShot Professional Tennis Tournament Series announced that five players from the University of Texas Women’s Tennis Team will compete in the HEB Women’s Pro Tennis Open on May 25-31. The tournament is played at the Texas Tennis Center, and players compete for the coveted tennis points of the world and a $ 25,000 purse. Admission is free.

The singles qualifiers begin on Monday, October 25, and the main draw rounds begin on Tuesday, October 26. The first women’s Catalyst Award, in partnership with Google and the Austin Community Women’s Foundation, will be held on Wednesday, October 27th.

This year is the toughest competition for Austin-based tournament series to date. A total of 60 players will take part in the tournament, including Austin’s highest-rated WTA player Fernanda Contreras and five UT players as wildcards:

• Charlotte Chavatipon, No. 46 in the pre-season ITA doubles and No. 9 in the pre-season ITA doubles; went 28-1 as freshmen and earned 4th place in the NCAA All-Tournament Team and a singles
• Kylie Collins, No. 67 in the pre-season ITA doubles and No. 25 in the pre-season ITA doubles; earned an ITA double All-America and NCAA All-Tournament Team awards in first place as a double; went 17-3 as a single freshman; An 8-1 single record this year and won the ITA Texas Regional single title
• Malaika Rapolu, 26-3 singles record last year; A 5-3 single record this year and advanced to the semifinals at the ITA Texas Regional
• Fernanda Labraña, 23-2 singles record last year; 3-0 single record this year and won the Flight 5 single title in the Furman Fall Classic
• Bella Zamarripa, No. 55 in the pre-season ITA doubles placement; A 4-4 single record this year and advanced to the consolation final in the ITA Texas Regional
