Emma Raducanu says people need to be patient as she strives to consolidate her position on the WTA tour after her winning US Open last month.

Raducanu amazed the sports world when he did won the Flushing Meadows title qualifier. But the British fell in the second round at Indian Wells when he returned to the game this month and are still without a coach after resigning former Davis Cup player Andrew Richardson.

Raducanu will face Slovenian Polona Hercog in his opening match at the Transylvania Open in Romania later on Tuesday, and the world’s 23rd place said it was important to curb expectations.

‘I need some time’

“I feel like everyone should be a little patient with me,” he told the British media on Monday.

– I’m going to find my tennis, I just need a little time. Things have happened pretty quickly, I learned a lot. I just have to be patient with myself, I don’t expect too much. I learned to accept that it is not so smooth. In the long run, I know it’s going to be up and down. ”

Former world number one Simona Halep supported Raducanuta to break into the world top 10. “He did something great and he probably needs some time to see what it’s like to be there every week,” Halep said. “And then he becomes much stronger.”
