UNION, NJ (30.10.21) – Jenna Flemings made four stops during the overtime penalty shootout to take the # 5 Kean University field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Stockton University in the regular season final on Saturday afternoon.
Megan Keeney and Lia DiPiazza scored a goal for the Cougars, improving 18-1 overall and 5-1 at the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Alexandra Palumbo scored two goals for the Ospreys, finishing the season in overall results 8-8 and NJAC 1-5.
Kean missed most of the first half when Stockton opened the goal in six minutes. Cougars tied the match 1-1 just before Halftime when DiPiazza converted a penalty kick.
Kean initially went 2-1 to lead in the second half when Keeney scored a Ja’Carra Jackson feeds with a high shot from the top of the arc at 36th minute. Stockton once again responded in the regulation with points just before the end of the third and leveled the match 2-2.
After an undefeated fourth and two overtime periods, both teams participated in a penalty shootout to settle the race.
In the penalty shootout, Stockton failed two and Kean one Peyton Mann made the first shot. When Stockton turned on his next attempt, DiPiazza replied who would be the winner of the game. The Flemings would stop two more Osprey attempts to lock in profits.
Kean led in shots (29-14), shots on goal (19-7) and penalty corners (19-13).
Jordan Thompson a total of eight shots, while Keeney recorded seven. Fleming and Belly Reynoso combined with five savings in 80 minutes of work.
Head coach Leslie LaFronz and Cougars will return to operations on Wednesday, November 3rdrd, hosts third-place Lions of the College of New Jersey in the NJAC semi-finals at 7:30 p.m.
