University football scores, standings, highlights: SEC championship clearer, Notre Dame wins key

The SEC division competitions became clearer on Saturday night. No. 1 Georgia finished SEC East hours after winning Florida 34-7, thanks to their Mississippi State Bulldogs colleagues who knocked out Kentucky 12. 31-17. Mike Leach’s team made a solid defense that kept the Wildcats in the 216-yard attack. The loss drops Kentucky to 4-2 in the SEC, but as one of those two losses came to Georgia, the draw assures that Kirby Smart’s team will head to Atlanta for the SEC championship for the fourth time in five years.

On the other side of Division No. 18, Auburn won 10. Be Miss 31-20, and now the Tigers remain alongside Alabama in the SEC West as the only teams to have lost one loss. Quarterback Bo Nix had another steady night as he threw 276 yards, rushed 30 yards and made three touchdowns.

Elsewhere, between the teams in the game who shared the conference for one season, Notre Dame 11 became the last team to drive Mack Brown crazy by raising expectations for North Carolina. Fighting Irish won a 44-34 loss to Tar Heels, constrained by Notre Dame Kyren Williams ’incredible 91-yard touchdown. The win will improve the Irish reading 7-1 and keep them alive in the hunt for the College Football playoffs as we prepare for the first place finish of the season on Tuesday. As for North Carolina, it drops to 4-4, and now it just hopes to achieve bowl eligibility.
