The men’s doubles, Gnanasekaran Sathiyan and Manika Batra, won the best tribute at the 2021 WTT World Contender in Tunis, Turkey on Saturday. The Indian duo defeated Frenchman Emmanuel Lebesson and Alexandre Cassin in the final with goals 11-9, 4-11, 11-9, 11-5.
Gnanasekaran Sathiyan, who had already earned the WTT Contender title earlier this year in mixed doubles alongside Manika Batra, he sought to add another feather to his cap. His campaign at the WTT Contender in Tunis had been almost perfect, along with his partner Harmeet Desai in the men’s singles, and only the last hurdle had to be overcome.
The duo faced the Frenchman Emmanuel Lebesson and Alexandre Cassini in the top match. Both teams started the first game positively, but the Indians laughed last and won it 11-9. However, the French duo returned with an appropriate response and bag the second game easily.
The third set was a tough fight as the Indian pair dominated the match to a 2-1 lead. The fourth game was completely dominated by the Indians, and the pair didn’t waste much time sealing the deal.
The final results were 11-9, 4-11, 11-9, 11-5 in favor of Sathiyan of Gnanasekara.
