The Sathiyan-Harmeet couple is aiming for the Commonwealth Games

With the Commonwealth Games on the horizon, Indian paddler Sathiyan has allied with Harmeet Desai, while Sharath Kamal has mated with Manav Thakkar at the WTT Contender in Tunis.

The new pair of Sathiyan and Harmeet won in their first tournament in Tunis. However, Sharath and Manav fell to Hungarian Nandor Ecsek and Adam Szud in four games in the WTT Contender quarterfinals.

By the way, the Sharath Kamal-Sathiyan and Harmeet-Manav Thakkar pairs had each won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Doha, Qatar a couple of months ago.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Sathiyan revealed details of the exchange. He said:

“We’re going to try different combinations and see how we can adapt. It’s all done keeping the Commonwealth Games in mind. It’s one of the landmark tournaments and we have to be our best partner there.”

Sathiyan added that changes have also been made in the sense of the single category:

“We (Sharath and I) can’t play doubles together because the focus is also on doubles. We have to find a balance between doubles and doubles to go to the Commonwealth Games.”

Sathiyan said he would likely form a pair with Harmeet at the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham next year.

“This double pair will continue in the future. We (Sathiyan and Harmeet) will play on more Pro-Tours. I think this will be good for us. We’ve tried different combinations and seen where we can adapt. The more we play, the better it’s for us . “

Sathiyan skip the doubles now

Sathiyan, the second best Indian paddler after Sharath Kamal, said he would focus on playing alone in upcoming Slovenian tournaments.
