SCHUYLERVILLE, NY – For three quarters, Shenendehowa and Guilderland were locked out of the goal-free game as they played in the Section 2 Class A field hockey championship.
– In the middle we had talked about calming our nerves. We played very excited, very nervous. We really didn’t go into many passes, ”said Shen senior striker Molly Miller. – Our attack really accelerated in the fourth quarter. We really wanted this goal and we really didn’t want to go any further.
Miller was the one who brought Shen to the lead in the fourth quarter, offering the Plainsmen a green goal on their way to a 1-0 win and a parts championship.
“It was one of the best feelings ever. We’ve worked hard on this all season and we usually do so well in our penalty corners, but Guilderland did a really good job of locking them in, Miller said. “I think we beat them in the last quarter and did our best.”
“It was a really tough game. The game was played mostly in the middle of the field. We didn’t really get to the attacking head, but when we did, we made a execution when we had to do it.”
Kelly Westervelt assisted the goal just before the clock hit 10:00 in the fourth quarter.
“We’ve been working on this game all season,” Miller explained. “We always seem to find each other, no matter where we are. I am so lucky to be able to call him one of my teammates.

“That kid is working. He’s working after him,” Shen coach Shawn Eggleston said, “He started out a little nervous, ended up getting two cards, but he’s a kid with a switch and he just says ‘it’s time.’ You can see it in his way of playing. He leaves his heart out on the field. “
A half-time ceremony was held at the field where the Saratoga Springs field hockey team donated a $ 2,230 donation to the Schuylerville Teacher’s Association. This season, Blue Streaks raised money in honor of its former assistant coach, Beth Roberts, who died of cancer in July. The donation goes to the Beth Roberts Memorial Scholarship in Schuylerville, where she worked as a special education teacher and lacrosse coach for young college girls in addition to her field hockey coaching duties in Saratoga.

Shenendehowa will advance to the Regional Championship on November 7 at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School and will face Section 3 champion Baldwinsville.
Baldwinsville defeated Cicero-North Syracuse 3-0 on Sunday and won the Part 3 championship.
