Committed to Alabama, Robert Woodyard is one of 16 footballers selected as semi-finalists for the High School Butkus Award.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Woodyard is out of Williamson’s late season due to a knee injury. The Lions will play American Christian in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs on Friday.
CAUSE: Round 1 playoff pairs
Woodyard – both an offensive and a defensive force – has been on the national recruitment radar since the freshman season. He committed to Crimson Tide in the summer before his junior term and has said little about his recruitment since.
He is the 7th senior in the state enlisted, 247 according to the combination list.
The selection of Butkus semi-finalists is the responsibility of a panel of 51 coaches, recruiters, scouts and journalists, who vote separately and confidentially in a 3-2-1 process with the possibility of enrollment.
Finalists from both the college and high school departments are expected to be announced on November 22 and the winners on or before December 7. The winners will be invited to the Butkus Award Ceremony on May 5-6. February in Palm Springs.
According to the press release, it is possible that a mate on the semi-finalist list will raise the end of the season and have voters to reconsider.
