DII football Power 10 rankings: Ferris State will remain at the forefront for the past two weeks

Halloween has come and gone, but surprisingly many scary events for the top teams in DII football didn’t happen. Only one Power 10 team lost this week – which is frighteningly rare – but it was No. 2 in Valdosta State, and it didn’t affect West Georgia’s position too much.

However, the DII football regular season now has two weeks left before the selection program. These rankings provide more clarity than ever before about who may be your post-season favorites.

DII Football Power 10 Rankings (all games until October 31)

Well. 1 Ferris State | Previous: 1
Kick off. Dominate. Repeat. It has been the key to the Bulldogs ’success this season. Ferris State’s total number of attacks (518.6 yards per game) and scoring attack (46.0 points per game) is number 2, winning games by an average of 21 points per race. The last two teams on the Bulldogs ’schedule are 5-13, so while there’s no certainty in DII football, Ferris State seems to be close to locking in their third consecutive unbeaten regular season.

No 2 State of Valdosta Previous: 2
Thanks to West Georgia for doing what no one else has done this season: giving Blazers a ball game. Valdosta State won their toughest match of the season from the Wolves 36-34. The Blazers attack has been one of the best and has made the top five yards and points per game. As in Valdosta State’s 2018 race to the championship, if you give the Blazers the ball last, they’ll hit you.

No. 3 Harding | Previous: 3
Harding seems to be improving weekly and last Saturday’s win of 73-14 showed it. Three freshmen ran more than 100 yards each, raising Harding’s DII football top attacks to an astounding 395.1 yards per game. Combine it with an attack on the third best goal and you have a recipe for winning ball games – you earn plenty of points while controlling the clock and keeping your opponent’s attacks off the field.

No. 4 West Florida | Previous: 4
Argos played tightly against the controversial first half against Mississippi College last weekend, but as they have done most of the season, completely dominated the second half. While Austin Reed has been a steady force, it seems like every week a new star steps forward with a huge game. This week it was a move by Larry Rembert who made his career’s highest 184-yard reception and three touchdowns. Mark your calendar – Valdosta State and West Florida are fighting in the age match on the last Saturday of the season.

Well. 5 Northwest Missouri Previous: 5
Wow. This was what we were left to say after the Bearcats dominated the 66-13 victory over the top 25 in Nebraska-Kearney last Saturday. The Northwest Missouri State defense continues to make an impact, as last week they held the MIAA’s top attack at just 13 points. In fact, Bearcats D has not yet allowed 20 points in the match this season. We said Al McKeller would be a substitute for the Bearcats this season, and he showed that Saturday with four goals.

No. 6 Bowie State | Previous: 9
The Bulldogs have shown that the CIAA is once again Bowie State Country. They reached their third consecutive division title and will play for the CIAA championship in a few weeks. This team has an incredible balance and a host of offensive and defensive superstars that excel among the best in DII football. They are one of five teams that are still perfect in DII games this season.

No. 7 Grand Valley State | Previous: 8
The Lakers released another win that wasn’t exciting in boxing points, but shows why this team is dangerous – they’ll find a way to win. Let’s not forget that one of their losses was No. 1 for Ferris State with one point in the game that went to the wire. Cade Peterson seems to be the perfect quarterback to master the pace and depth on this team, and with a relatively easy schedule to finish things, we expect them to get into the playoffs as a one-loss team.

No 8 West Georgia | Previous: 6
Wolves has a pretty impressive resume. Their two losses came to nationally ranked teams, and they have a win since then no. 1 West Florida. Adding a couple of shutouts made by this defense and Harrison Frost’s solid general, this is by far the best team in the country to lose by two losses. West Georgia has a free week to prepare for Delta State, which is a much better team than its record suggests. Winning should lock them in for the rest of the season.

No 9 Cal (PA) | Previous: 7
The Vulcans are one of four undefeated teams to beat Seton Hill 42-14 on Saturday. While they have an impressive win at the time in the top 25 Indiana (PA) at the time, it’s the only tough competition the Vulcans have faced. This coming week, they’ll be fighting Slippery Rock on the road and showing off a lot of what’s expected of them after the season. One thing we know is that quarterback Noah Mitchell thrives on the DII pin, which helps when there is no strength.

No 10 Notre Dame (OH) Previous: 10
This team makes scoring seem so easy. And you don’t know which direction they’re going against you. Sometimes it’s a double-headed backfield from Tyris Dickerson and Idris Lawrence, and sometimes Chris Brimm just drops, like he did last weekend, throwing 300 yards and five goals. Falcons and postseason are about as easy a choice as you can make, and it looks like they’re trendy again in that direction.

Bentley in New Haven – Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
The Falcons are one of the hottest teams in DII football, still undefeated and won their last 13 teams from 2019. They have an attack that scores over 30 goals when they make nearly 400 yards per outing. This put Falcons in first place in the first regional categories. New Haven is unbeaten in NE10 and is just five places behind Bentley in the regional rankings. Chargers has the best defense in NE10, so this is a steady race with a lot of lines. Bentley has played on a slightly tighter schedule so far, but New Haven leads the series over the past decade with an 8-3 record. This is as hard as it can be. Prediction: Bentley

Cal (PA) at Slippery Rock – Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
This will be a battle. The last time Cal won Slippery Rock was in 2016 on his own field. Many of these matches have been very close. Slippery Rock, on the other hand, lost to the toughest team it has played this season, and sitting at the bottom of the Super Region One tournament teams has quite a bit to prove. Calilla has the strictest D in the PSAC and one of the best in the DII. The problem with Slippery Rock is that if this becomes a penalty kick, Calilla is The Rock’s crime, which most PSAC teams don’t do. I think this is going to work overtime, and I might reverse my choice as we learn more over the course of the week. Prediction: Cal

Augustana (SD) Minnesota Duluth – Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m.
The Vikings are looking for a first-round farewell to the DII football playoffs as Minnesota Duluth battles for his post-season life. It’s going to be a tough order for the Bulldogs, as the Vikings own the NSIC’s second-best goal attack and defense. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, have won the last three matches against Augustana, but all three have been close. It may now be time for Kyle Saddler to show his true strength under the Center and win a huge game in the playoffs. Prediction: Augustana (SD)
