Baylor women’s tennis joins the final fall tournament

Baylor women’s tennis is on its way to College Station this Friday to attend the Texas A&M Invitational at the end of the fall season. This is the first time most of the team is in one place because they have participated most of the season separate events. Older duo partners Mel Krywoj and Alicia Herrero Linana are excited to finally get to be with the rest of the team. They said that while it has been difficult for everyone, the team has worked hard and is ready to play.

“I think fall is always tough for the team,” Linana said. “Some girls are playing in some places, other girls are playing in other places at the same time, but I think it’s good. Everyone is trying their best to get better in the print room and on the field. I think it’s very exciting that we can play together this weekend.

Krywoj talked jokingly about his chemistry with Linana and said they don’t actually have any chemistry publicly presented.

“I think we have good chemistry, but not in reality,” Krywoj said.

Linana continued and said the team is very tight. Linana herself said that Krywoj and the rest of the team can find success because they are close.

“I think we’re really close,” Linana said. “I think that’s why our team is together [overall] works really well. “

Linana said one thing where she and Krywoj can improve their duel partners is to serve and return better. He also said they want to take an aggressive approach in the upcoming tournament.

“By playing doubles, we’re naturally going to try to serve and return better than last week for sure, “Linana said.” It changes the game when you double up.

As the team headed to the Texas A&M Invitational and then the spring season, Linana and Krywoj said the most important thing is that everyone treats their matches like everyone else. In their eyes, this gives them the best chance of making a profit across the board.

“I feel it’s very important this spring to treat every match the same way and prepare mentally,” Linana said. “Sometimes maybe we focus too much on the end result, the results we play against.”

Krywoj agreed with Linana, saying this is crucial to the team’s success.

“It helps us constantly improve and play our best,” Krywoj said.

After successful trip To San Diego last weekend, Linana said the team feels prepared, confident and ready to leave this weekend.

“I think physically and mentally we’ve worked really hard during this semester,” Linana said. “The program has been great; I feel like all the members of our team are getting stronger and mentally better to start with [toward] January.”

The Texas A&M Invitational begins Friday and ends Sunday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. It will be the team’s last event until the spring.
