MINNEAPOLIS Sofia Boman and McKenna Buisman Gopher Soccer players were named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Team on Thursday.
The 2021 Academic AllDistrict Women’s Soccer Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognizes the country’s best student athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. Both Gophers are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America awards later this year.
Boman led Gophers in feeds (four) and shots (41) in the 2021 season and finished second in the team in goals (four). Edina, Minn., A native difference throughout the season. He scored a couple of winning goals in matches against opponents of the NCAA tournament. Boman, who studied biology, helped the first-year head coach Erin Chastain got his first Minnesota win in the season opener against Baylor and then added the game’s winning goal against Ohio State to give Chastain his first Big Ten win.
Buisman, who is pursuing a master’s degree in public policy, had a break year at Maroon & Gold in 2021. He was second on the team in goals (four) and points third in the team (nine). He made his first time of trouble against Illinois in a 5-0 win at home and added an insurance goal in a Minnesota 4-1 match from Penn State at home. Buisman also scored a goal against the final Big Ten regular season champion Rutgers in a 2-1 loss at home.
The pair is the first Gopher to earn the CoSIDA Academic All-District Awards this year after a record-breaking performance by student athletes at the University of Minnesota from 2020 to 2021, with 33 academic All-District winners and 15 academic All-Americans.
