Fallen Marine Cpl. was honored as a “hometown hero” in a local hockey match

The hockey team in Omaha, Nebraska, honors the 23-year-old Marine Cpl. Daegan Page on Friday night. Page died in a suicide bombing at Kabul Airport in August.

Omaha Lancers, the U.S. hockey league team, honors Page and his family during the game as part of it. “Hero of the hometown“program that honors members of the U.S. military and first aiders.

Page was one of thirteen American soldiers killed in a suicide bombing at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan on August 26th.

Before Friday night’s game begins, Pag’s family will take part in a ceremonial puck drop and will be offered a Lancers hockey shirt with the Daegans name on it.

Pictures of Page show that he played amateur hockey before joining the Marines.

“We are shattered by the loss of our beloved Daegan, but events like this help us reassure us that many, many people understand the depth of the loss,” said Wendy Adelson, Pag’s mother. “Daegan was a hero to his family and friends before August 26, when he and 12 other members of the service made an extreme sacrifice in protecting our U.S. citizens and countless others in Afghanistan.”

Adelson said Page would be proud to be honored in the game.

“Daegan loved playing hockey and watching it, and we’re sure he especially considered this event really cool,” Adelson said. “We are honored to be in such an awesome company celebrating Daegan. This is a gang like him, and he’s sure to smile at all of us.”

Page joined the Marines after graduating from Millard South High School.

After the Marine Corps, Page planned to return home to Nebraska to attend a trade school.
