Dronacharya-winning Raman has turned his attention to the Olympic medal

Raman, who lives in Chennai, received the Dronacharya Award – which will be presented to coaches for their outstanding work – from President Ram Nath Govind at a gala ceremony held at Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday. Raman is the first table tennis fraternity to receive both the Arjuna and Dronacharya awards.

“I didn’t come to coaching in pursuit of awards. But I have the honor of winning these awards and I respect them. Nevertheless, I will move on. My ultimate goal is to produce a player to win the hard-won Olympic medal (in TT) for India, Raman, one of the five Dronacharya (regular) award winners, told DT Next from New Delhi. “All of these awards are good motivation. It shows that more players should return to their own sport and dive into coaching, just as (Prakash) Padukone and Pullela (Gopichand) did in badminton, Raman, who has more than a decade of coaching experience, said. “The award is definitely a good venue for me. It will refuel and revitalize me, ”he added.

Raman said he has developed as a coach over the years. “It’s been a great trip and I love coaching. Much has been learned along the way. I am happy to share my expertise with the next generation and help them achieve what I couldn’t. I’m passionate about India, and that drives me, ”added Raman, who got rich at 10,000 rupees on Saturday.
