Syracuse Orange Football: Dino Babers ’press conference remarks leave more questions

You don’t have to follow Syracuse Orange football team too closely to realize that a 41-3 loss to ACC Louisville’s low / midfield isn’t great. Orange only needs one win to get to the bowl, and instead of defeating one of his ACC counterparts, ‘Cuse must now drop one of the ACC’s best teams (Pitt and NC State) over. the last couple of games.

What makes it so much worse is that Orange was about to leave May Day with an injured team that desperately needed a week to reunite and get healthy. Instead, if the coach has faith, the team was not mentally or physically ready to defeat Louisville.

At some point, a coach who is constantly unable to prepare teams to play after a week of play must be critically evaluated (SU is 2-6 after congratulations under Babers, without the Camping World Bowl). That said, the team’s inability to stay focused during the week off would be logically tied to the culture surrounding the program, which the coach masters. However, I turn to the game questions …

Contrary to the preparatory comments, this is in line with Dino’s immediate post-game feedback that Tucker’s actions were not chasing statistics. As a player who is undeniably on the team’s MVP field game, it would make sense for the player’s coach to listen to the field leader.

I’m not in the locker room. I’m not in the program. Dino makes sure we don’t see much other than the actual games. But Dino suddenly settled into a player coach after numerous moves, and the incredibly messy quarterback situation is a red flag related to what I’ve previously said is the biggest problem I have with Dino Babers.

I understand that sometimes it is not the best decision to live by one rule and refuse to make exceptions. But what is Syracuse right now? The offensive identity is never Dino advertised first because Eric Dungey wasn’t that type of QB, then because Tommy DeVito wasn’t good enough, and now that’s because Garret Shrader isn’t that kind of QB. Babers staff brought two of these three QBs! And when every passing QB other than Jimmy Garoppolo puts years between Syracuse and Eastern Illinois, such statements sound less like proof of the concept and more of an exception to the rule.

I have already discussed why Babers probably still has at least one year in Syracuse to repair the ship, and I am ready to show that I am wrong. I want to be proven wrong! But right now, I can’t look at Syracuse and see anything other than another school that (rightly, at the time) bought the field from a talented rising coach – hoping he would make changes too to succeed. in the long run at the Power Five level.

Adjustments may still occur, possibly. Although at the same time we are also six years at this stage. If they haven’t happened yet, it’s hard to believe they will ever happen. And if we know they won’t, it makes sense to ask about the next Syracuse move.
