The stars of the future of cricket compete in the Caribbean for the under-19 World Cup

The tournament, which features 16 countries in 48 matches, will be held in the Caribbean for the first time in the history of its 14 tournaments and will run from January 14th to February 5th.

The World Cricket World Cup for under-19s has developed a reputation as an event that not only offers excellent competition and entertainment, but also showcases the future stars of the game.

Posts Kohli, Babar Azam, Joe Root, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Shimron Hetmyer are famous names who have competed in recent parts of the tournament, and the next generation of world-class talent will be on display in the West Indies in 2022.

The ICC U19 Mens Cricket World Cup is an exciting and special tournament that brings together the future stars of the game and gives them an unparalleled experience to compete globally, said ICC Event Manager Chris Tetley. We look forward to the 2022 edition to see who will become the stars of the future.

We are delighted that the West of India is hosting this event and we wish all teams the best preparation for the tournament and the Cricket West Indies in hosting the event.

The tournament will take advantage of ten venues in four Caribbean countries in Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago.

But New Zealand is not there, as the team will have to withdraw due to the mandatory quarantine restrictions they would have faced when they returned from the tournament. Scotland will replace Black Caps in the tournament.

The Scots will join Australia, Sri Lanka and the West Indies in Block D, and the hosts hope to be able to repeat the championship from 2016 onwards.

Bangladesh is the current defending champion to have won the Indian low-profile thriller in the 2020 U19 World Cup final.

They will face England, Canada and the United Arab Emirates in Block A. India, Ireland, South Africa and Uganda form Zone B. Afghanistan, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe are in Zone C.

The semi-finals and finals will be held at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua and Barbuda.

CWI looks forward to hosting this important global U19 cricket event, which is just around the corner in January, Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt said in a statement. In collaboration with the host regional governments, cricket clubs and sports ministries, we have worked hard in the run-up to this event in recent months. However, in the midst of so many Covid-related challenges, it has not been easy to finish the locations and do all the logistics associated with them.

Meanwhile, our U19 head coach Floyd Reifer and his coaching staff have been diligently coaching our teams to the competition using innovative methods to keep them active even when they can’t get to travel.

The West Indies has a proud history of cricket for under-19s, and several bright talents have grown into international stars over the years. That’s why we expect our current team of players under the age of 19 to make us proud in the 2022 tournament.

I am also confident that our visitors will experience the best of our world-famous Caribbean culture and hospitality in Antigua & Barbuda, Guyana, St. Kitts & Nevis and Trinidad & Tobago.
