Covid-19: The Cricket Association confirms the Palmerston North case

Covid-19 has spread to Palmerston North after a positive test by a member of the cricket community.

Paul Hofmann, chairman of the United Cricket Club, confirmed stuff on Thursday, one of the club’s players had received a positive Covid-19 test on Wednesday night.

The player’s test was negative on Monday and went to club practice at the Manawatū Cricket Association Indoor Training Center on Tuesday night, then he felt bad on Wednesday, a new test was taken and it returned positive, Hofmann said.

– He started to feel bad on Wednesday and thought it would make sense to go out and take another test, which really made sense. As soon as he got the result, he let us know. “

Hofmann said the infected, isolated at home, was not feeling very bad on Thursday, but his symptoms resembled a cold.

The club has been in contact with the Department of Health, and the players on the three-man team who were in practice on Tuesday were now isolated and reporting to anyone they have been in contact with.

United’s women’s team was not affected.

The player had used the Covid-19 Tracer app and was at the training center on Tuesday from 5:30 pm to 7:10 pm.

Hofmann believed all club members were vaccinated.

A ministry spokesman said he reported confirmed cases in his announcement every day at 1 p.m. Places of interest were added on the website of the Ministry when identified. The Central Finland Health Board has also been contacted for comments.

A queue of motorists is beginning to form at Palmerston North’s main Covid test station on Main Street, while the New Zealand Defense Forces have canceled a Cambrian Battle Memorial on Thursday over a confirmed case at Te Marae o Hine / The Square.

The Manawatū Cricket Association has advised anyone who was at the center at the same time to seek advice from the Ministry of Health on 0800 358 5453.

The indoor center was closed on Thursday due to thorough cleaning and the association hoped it would reopen by 3 p.m.

The incident came days after two Covid-19 cases were confirmed in neighboring Tararua on Sunday, where two people from Woodville had a positive test.
