Cameron Norrie: This week has been amazing ATP Tour

Despite a loss to his Nitto ATP Finals debut on Wednesday, Cameron Norrie revealed that he loved the racing experience at Turin’s Pala Alpitour and was pleased with his performance against Casper Ruud.

The 26-year-old is the second alternate in the season finale and only had hours to prepare for his Green Group match when he replaced Stefanos Tsitsipas, who withdrew due to an elbow injury.

“I enjoyed every second and I felt good in the workouts and I was ready to play and compete,” Norrie said. “I came out shooting and I loved the match. There were only a couple of games in the second and third rounds. I was really happy with my level.

“This week has been amazing to me so far. I used it as a practice block for the Davis Cup, so [it is] Bonus to get a pair if hits here. It’s a huge experience. ”

Britti has enjoyed a breakthrough in 2021 and earned the top 50 tour wins of his career. Norrie won her first tour-level title at the Mifel Open in Los Cabos in August and won her virgin ATP Masters 1000 crown at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells last month.

Left-handed said his success and experience this year helped him make his debut in the Nitto ATP finals.

“It was one of the biggest matches of my career, so I was just trying to learn from Indian Wells and take the experience, the emotions, to play great matches and played well under pressure,” Norrie said. “It’s been fun to play at this level and play at this level all year long.

“I was really pleased with how I handled the match [with Ruud] and how I approached it. I was basically there playing for free as a second alternative. I had nothing to lose and I came out shooting. All credit to Casper, it’s the best I’ve ever seen him serve. “

Norrie will face Green Group winner Novak Djokovic in their final match on Friday. The 26-year-old has played in major tournaments this season against Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, but has never met world number one before. Norrie enjoys this opportunity.

“I can’t wait,” Norrie said. “I’ve never played Novak or practiced with him, so this is the first one for me. I’m looking forward to it. I looked at him today and he shoots and knows the ball really well. He’s really good in these conditions. It’s a pretty fast court. It’s going to be hard, but I’m looking forward to it.I’ll see if I can hear and compete with that guy.
