2021 Houston WTTC: Aruna leads an African force to the United States

Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna will lead an African team to the 2021 World Table Tennis Championships in Houston, Texas, USA on March 23-29. November.

Aruna is already listed in the top 20 in the men’s singles event and is aiming to surpass the 32nd round African player in the best global tournament.

Confident Aruna said she was expecting good trips.

“I work hard at the exercises, hoping I’ll do well, especially surpassing my previous performance in America,” he said.

The Nigerian would compete with his countrymen Olajide Omotayo and Bode Abiodun in the men’s singles, while Offiong Edem is Nigeria’s only participant in the women’s singles.

Similarly, Omotayo is waiting for the tournament. “I really don’t have high expectations because I’ve struggled so much in recent tournaments. But I want to go there and give my best as always. My goal is to play at my best and I hope to have a good draw, Omotayo said.

Egyptian Omar Assar, who survived the final round of the 32nd round in Budapest, Hungary, is leading a six-man Egyptian squad to Houston.

Assar said, “I look forward to my final preparation with the Egyptian national team to get in the best possible shape. I look forward to getting used to the time difference in the US and getting in the mood so that I can do well and perform at a high level.

“My goal is to get to the top 32 as our starting point. From there, I think we can stand on the podium,” Insha Allah, Assar said.
