Over the past three years, two players have won the NBA MVP Award, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic.
Jokic won the award last season and Antetokounmpo won the award in the consecutive seasons that preceded it.
Something crazy?
The Bucks could have drafted Antetokounmpo and Jokic in consecutive seasons.
How is it possible?
Lots of recent former MVPs; LeBron James, Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, James Harden, etc. were in the top three selections in the NBA draft.
Antetokounmpo was a lesser-known player from Greece and was the 15th overall choice for the Bucks in 2013.
Jokic was an even more unknown potential person, and he was the Nuggets ’41st general choice in 2014.
The Bucks picked Johnny O’Bryant into the 36th overall selection just a few selections earlier when Jokic was still on the board.
Had they been able to combine the two, they would have arguably had the biggest front line in NBA history.
The only argument they wouldn’t have had is the possibility that maybe if they had been on the same team, they wouldn’t have developed into MVPs because they would have to share the spotlight and the ball.
Nonetheless, everything seems to work for the Bucks, as Antetokounmpo led them to the 2021 NBA Championship and won the final MVP.
As for the Nuggets, they’ve made one of the best selections of the NBA draft ever.
He is the only MVP in NBA history to be drafted at such a low level.
