Aussie netball legend Liz Ellis has raged Cricket Australia and the way the sports organization has tried to deal with the bombing of former captain Tim Paine.
Wicketkeeper left his role as captain of the Australian Test cricket team on Friday, got down to a series of lewd texts he had sent to a former Cricket Tasmanian employee.

In an emotional statement to the media later Friday afternoon, Paine was left out as captain.
The saga took another dramatic turn on Saturday as chairman of Cricket Australia (CA) Richard Freudenstein admitted that the organization made a mistake not to expose the Painen sexting scandal after previously investigating the matter in 2018.
He said Pressure would not have been promoted to captain in the contemporary culture of Australian cricket.
Freudenstein’s comments blamed the previous Cricket Australia board in 2018, when the sport was led by CEO James Sutherland and former chairman David Peever. Former test captain Mark Taylor was also a board member at the time.
Saturday’s press conference, attended by Freudenstein and CA CEO Nick Hockley, revealed that they had both been aware of Paine’s sex scandal when they were appointed to positions at the top of the organization.

Taylor challenged CA’s decisions

Ellis grilled Taylor on his role as a former member of the CA board and why the investigation into Pain was held in silence at the time.
Taylor was of the firm opinion that the decision to keep the investigation confidential was in the interest of all parties involved.
He also acknowledged that Painen was the right step to resign on Friday, prompting Ellis to ask why it wasn’t the right decision three years ago if it was the right decision now that CA considered him captain.
“I think we really need to focus on the Cricket Australia board and the culture and the bigger issues,” Ellis said.
“If he had to resign now, why wasn’t it good enough to resign when the government found out about this (in 2018) and you didn’t have to make it public?”
Ellis also complained about the silence of David Peever, the former chairman of the CA, and said that not hearing him was “incredibly disappointing as his responsibility stops as a chair”.
Taylor defended his government’s decision to ignore Painen’s sex history when the 36-year-old was appointed full-time captain in 2018 when Steve Smith survived a one-year international cricket ban.
He reiterated that the decision not to publish the study was in the interests of Painen and the complainant, and denied any allegations of a “toxic culture” at Cricket Australia.
Taylor also talked about how she believes the CA board made the right decision based on the information it had at the time about Painen’s sexting period.
“As a government and because I’m sure Cricket will be our Australian leadership at the time, you won’t have three and a half years in arrears,” Taylor said.
“You have to make decisions when you believe it is in the interests of all parties, with the information you have at the moment.”
Taylor also said she thinks Pressure is now a different man than the one who sent those Test Messages in 2017.
“First of all, I’m still sad and I find it pretty painful to see what happened on Friday,” Taylor said.

Painen’s senseless text messages were revealed
Pressure said in an emotional press conference on Friday he deeply regrets exchanging sexually explicit text messages with a former colleague of Cricket Tasmania.

– When I think about it, my activities in 2017 will not meet the level of an Australian cricket captain or the wider community. I deeply regret the harm and pain I have caused to my wife, family, and the other party.
“I’m sorry for all the damage this is doing to the reputation of our sport. And I think it’s the right decision for me to resign as captain right away. I don’t want this to be an unwanted disruption to the team before the huge Ashes series.
“I have loved my role as captain of the Australian cricket team. The biggest privilege of my sporting life has been to lead an Australian men’s test team. I am grateful for the support of my teammates and proud of what we have accomplished together. I ask them for understanding and forgiveness.
“For Australian cricket fans – I am deeply sorry that my past behavior has affected our game on the eve of Ashes. I apologize for the disappointment I have caused the fans and the cricket community as a whole.
