In table tennis, Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Ito Mima will face his Chinese rival Sun Yingshan in the semi-finals of the global competition if both players stay in good shape.

The schedule for the World Table Tennis Championships was drawn on Sunday and will begin on Tuesday in Houston, Texas.

The Finnish Championships consist of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Ito suffered a direct defeat against Sun at the Tokyo Olympics this summer. Attention will be paid to whether 21-year-old Ito will be able to figure out the score with Sun of the same age.

Ito is also participating in the women’s doubles, as a team with another 21-year-old Hayata Hina.

The pair grabbed silver at previous World Championships in 2019. They aim to be the first Japanese pair to win gold in 54 years.

Meanwhile, two other Japanese aces, Ishikawa Kasumi and Hirano Miu, will face Sun and Wang Manyu in the women’s doubles semi-finals. Everyone should be doing well.

The Chinese pair is the defending champion of the event.

Meanwhile, Harimoto Tomokazu, fourth in the men’s singles world rankings, will not face anyone in the top ten Chinese players until he progresses to the finals.

After losing from a low-profile player in the fourth round two years ago, Harimoto promised to approach every match as a “take-or-break” game.
