Preview: Bangladesh’s struggling cricket team will fight the injuries before the huge challenge to host Pakistan in a series of two tests starting on Friday in Chittagong.
Star players Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal are on the sidelines, adding to a lack of confidence in the camp after losing eight in a row to Twenty20 International, meaning Pakistan will start as the overwhelming favorite.
The guests performed a clean sweep 3-0 in the previous Twenty20 series, but they are without leading spinner Yasir Shah, who has been treating a thumb injury since September.
The bike has been Pakistan’s top bowler since 2014, scoring 235 goals in 46 tests.

The versatile Shakib suffered a femoral injury in Sharjah last month against West India that ended his T20 World Cup, but he had been admitted to the test team in hopes of regaining his condition.
But Bangladesh’s chief executive, Minhajul Abedin, said on Tuesday: “Shakib has not yet recovered from his injury. He needs more rehabilitation. He will be taken care of by our physiotherapist on an ongoing basis.”
Tamim was left out of the test team as he recovers from a finger injury and is unlikely to resume training until next month, an official from the Bangladesh Cricket Commission said.
Minhajul was confident that Bangladesh would be able to compensate for Shakib’s absence.
“We have options both in the spin section and in pace. The first test team is made up of cricketers who have played regularly together and they know the demand for test matches,” he said.
“Pakistan is a great team, but we are confident that Bangladesh will be competitive if we are disciplined and patient.”
Pakistan will replace Yasir with 36-year-old Bilal Asif, who played the last of his five tests in 2018.
“We have experienced players in the test matches, we just want to take the momentum forward,” said Pakistan captain Babar Azam after sweeping Bangladesh in the T20 series.
Pakistan has played 10 tests against Bangladesh and won nine.
Bangladesh’s only draw came in 2015 when Tamim took the virginity test to double the record-breaking 312-run opening stand with Imrul Kayes in the second set in Khulna.
The second test will begin in Dhaka on December 4th.
