Thanksgiving weekend is perhaps the best weekend in college football. The conferences are constantly scheduling their biggest racing games this weekend, and huge games are promised this week to help decide who will advance to the conference championships across the country next week.
In Big Ten, the West is partly decided by the sport’s most played competition. Wisconsin and Minnesota will meet in Minneapolis on Saturday to decide who will hold Paul Bunyans Ax for the second year. If Wisconsin wins, they will win the West again and head to Indianapolis next week. Simple! But if Minnesota wins, the division will be bookable depending on the outcome of Friday’s Iowa-Nebraska match and possibly Saturday’s Purdue-Indiana match.
Here’s how the scenarios break down:
- Wisconsin wins West: Wisconsin wins OR Iowa’s loss and Purdue’s loss
- Iowa wins the West: Iowa wins and Minnesota victory
- Minnesota wins the West: Minnesota wins and Iowa’s loss and Purdue victory
The Big Ten East is much easier to define, as the weekend winner among only the top five, Michigan hosted # 2 in Ohio State, will take east.
In the SEC, the Alabama-Georgia match Tuetle game ihas already been locked, but both teams are playing inter-state competitions this Saturday. The Bulldogs will face Georgia Tech in Atlanta, while Alabama will head to Auburn for this year’s releasen Ironn Bowl.
Finally, Big XII is the only second game of the weekend between two ranked teams to take part in Oklahoma and Oklahoma State’s annual Bedlam competition. The Cowboys already have a place locked and play either Baylor (if both Oklahoma State and Baylor win this weekend) or Oklahoma in a row (Sooners win or Baylor defeat).
