Union men’s basketball bows to Hamilton in the final of the tournament; RPI men’s hockey disappears – The Daily Gazette

SCHENECTADY – Nick Osarenren scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on Sunday when Hamilton won the Union 50-47 to win the Sig Makofski Invitational Championship at the Viniar Athletic Center.

Osarenren was chosen as the most valuable player in the tournament. He was 9/15 off the field and also had four assists and three blocks in the Continentals (3-3).

Union (2-2) led 25-22 at halftime. Both teams struggled in the second half with their shot. Hamilton was 9/31 (29%), while Union was 6/21 (28.6%).

Mike Manley led the Dutch by 17 points. He was the only player on the team to score a double-digit goal. Temi George grabbed 11 rebounds.

Teja Singh added 13 points to Hamilton.

The entire tournament team featured Manley, Osarenren, Singh, Jeremiah Simmons of Mount St. Vincent and Morrisville State Brison Hall.

RPI HOCKEY disappears

BOSTON – Northeastern scored twice in the third set to eliminate a 1-0 loss and win the RPI 2-1 in the men’s university hockey match at Matthews Arena.

The victory complemented the sweep of the Huskies ’two-game Engineers, who finished 18th (11-4-1). Northeastern won 2-1 at Houston Field House on Friday.

Jack Brackett led the RPI (6-7-2) to a 1-0 lead in the second period at 6:36. Aidan McDonough leveled Northeastern 1:02 in the third inning. Matt Choupani scored the winner’s goal with 4:12 left in the match.

Only one penalty was imposed in the match.

RPI will return to the game on Friday as it hosts third-place Quinnipiac.

SKIDMORE HOCKEY WON THE COMPETITION

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Will Dow-Kenny’s 5:11 goal in the third set brought Skidmore a 1-0 win over Connecticut College in the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational.

Goalkeeper Brandon Tate defeated Thoroughbreds 25 times (4-3-1).
