Iowa Football: The Hawkeyes rose to 13th place in the College Football playoff rankings

The Iowa Hawkeyes finished the regular season last week with a win Nebraska Cornhuskers Black Friday, when the year ends 10-2. This in itself makes this a very successful season, but the Hawkeyes aren’t ready yet.

After winning the season finale, Iowa received much-needed help from an unlikely friend on Saturday. Minnesota Gophers won Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin’s loss to Iowa’s exclusive first place in the Big Ten West and wins the Hawkeyes collision course Michigan Wolverines this Saturday in the Big Ten Championship.

Both Iowa and Michigan will be taking part in this match with new rankings as each team has achieved their victory in the College Football playoff rankings. Each team is now taking part in a showdown that ranks among the top 15 nationally as Iowa ranks 13th this week.

Iowa debuted at number 22 in its original rankings four weeks ago. This is the 16th consecutive week that the Hawkeyes have been ranked in the CFP rankings. It’s good for the 7th longest active series in the country.

Wisconsin’s defeat completely knocked them out of this week’s rankings, meaning Iowa is still the weakest Big Ten team. State of Michigan rose to 11th place after winning Penn State as the only Big Ten team outside the top10.

For dismantling State of Ohio, Michigan will jump to 2nd place this week, while the Buckeyes will drop from 2nd to 7th and give the Big Ten four ranked teams this week – the weakest of the year.

Outside of Big Ten, the SEC leads all conferences with six teams ranked in the top 25. That’s more than five weeks ago, which expands its leadership in this regard to two teams. Georgia remains in 1st place, while Alabama remains in 3rd place after he has escaped the jaws of defeat at the hands of Auburn. The two will face off in the SEC championship on Saturday with a loss to Georgia that is likely to be locked in both the playoffs and a loss to Alabama that will leave them out.

The ACC prefers four teams this week, but will once again reach the top 15. Pitt leads the herd in 15th place Wake Forest and NC State not far behind in positions 16 and 18. Clemson completes the group in position 20.

Big 12 is not far from Big Ten as they have three teams in the rankings this week. Oklahoma dropped to 14th after its defeat State of Oklahoma, who sits in 5th place hoping for a loss to Alabama. The Cowboys will face # 9 Baylor in the Big 12 Championship on Saturday with the OK State likely playoff team if they can win and lose to Alabama.

Oregon rose back to the top 10 this week, but the PAC-12 stays out to watch the playoffs. Utah will continue to rise to No. 17 this week and get a rematch with the Ducks this weekend.

The AAC holds two teams better this week as Cincinnati is in 4th place, while Houston continues to rise to 21st. The two teams will also face off in the AAC championship on Saturday.
