Well. 1 The University of Wisconsin Badgers (15-0-1, 11-0-1 WCHA) has returned home this weekend and will face his rival, No. 5 Minnesota Golden Gophers (12-4, 7-3).

The border fight La Bahn Arena is sure to have one of the biggest matches of the year, as the best competitors in college hockey are both among the top five.

After the Thanksgiving weekend break, the badgers returned home riding the previous successful weekend. In St. Paul, UW defeated St. Thomas Tommies and defeated them with a combined score of 12 in two games.

Minnesota, meanwhile, lost 6th to Colgate in the Smashville Showcase Championship. The defeat cut the Gophers ’11-game winning streak and gave them their first defeat without a conference in four years.

Both teams arrive over the weekend with two of the longest offenses in college hockey. Wisconsin scores an average of five goals per match, the second highest in the country. Minnesota isn’t much worse, as he scores an average of 4.25 goals per game, which is the nation’s fourth.

Likewise, both of these teams have defended brilliantly and looted. Wisconsin’s defense allows for less than one goal per game, while Minnesota’s 1.9.

From the players ’perspective, both of these teams are up and down in the lineup. Wisconsin has been led by their top-class sophomores Casey O’Brien and Makenna Webster. Throughout the season, the two have done nothing but perform, and the Badgers expect it to continue in this weekend’s border fight.

O’Brien leads the country in goals, scoring 16 goals in 16 games. This absurd figure is supported by Webster’s ability to score throughout the season. He has scored 14 goals, which is the second in the country.

You might be wondering who has the third most goals this year – that bronze medal belongs to a Minnesota star senior. Taylor Heisewho has them 13.

While both attacks are brilliant, both can have difficulty scoring a goal against the nation’s top two goalkeepers. Wisconsin’s Kennedy Blair has turned off the lights all season. The 0.92 goals he scored against the national average is the fourth best in the country and he has five shutouts this year.

All three Minnesota goalkeepers have played different starts throughout the season, and all three have played at a very high level.

We start with graduate student Lauren Bench. During the six starts of this season, Bench have scored 2.05 goals on average and 0.921 rebounds.

Freshman Skylar Vetter have started five times this season and have made their way to 1.94 against the average and 0.913 against the rebound.

Finally, junior Makayla Pahl has left five times this season. He has 1.70 goals in the lead and an average of 0.916 percent.

No matter which goalkeeper Minnesota throws on the ice, Wisconsin will have to get the puck to the back of the net.

One last note: Wisconsin have lost to Minnesota in their last eight matches and won 6-0-2 in those matches. The Badgers are also 10-3-2 in their last 15 games against the Gophers. Even with recent Wisconsin wins, Minnesota has an all-time record of 53-44-13 against Wisconsin.

Stay out of the penalty box

While Wisconsin is quite disciplined about waiver, Minnesota is not. The badgers have waived a total of 38 penalties this year, while the Gophers have waived 62.

Wisconsin’s power play rate is 11th in the country and 9th in Minnesota. The ultimate goal of these teams must be to stay out of the penalty area, otherwise the opponent may take advantage.

Another noteworthy thing – Minnesota already has three short-term goals this season, the second highest in the nation.
