Colombia shines on the sixth day of the Youth Pan American Games

CALI, Colombia, December 2 (Xinhua) – Colombia rose to the top of the Junor Pan American Games medal table on Thursday, winning athletics, baseball and speed skating.

The host country’s seven gold medals included four speed skating victories, with Gabriela Rueda, Juan Mantilla, Valeria Rodriguez and Salomon Carballo winning the women’s 10,000m, men’s 10,000m, women’s one lap and men’s one lap respectively.

Colombia also won two athletics golds through Jennifer Rodriguez in the women’s high jump and the women’s 4x100m message team.

The results mean Colombia now has 44 gold medals, one more than second-placed Brazil. Next are Mexico (35), the United States (35) and Cuba (23).

The latter added six more gold medals to the 10 gold medals he won on Wednesday, standing on the podium for the women’s and men’s hurdles, heptathlon, freestyle wrestling and table tennis.
