Ralf Rangnick of Man United wants Chris Armas to join the coaching team

Manchester United are exploring the possibility of hiring former U.S. Chris Armas as part of Ralf Rangnick’s staff, sources told ESPN.

Armas, whose last job was Toronto FC’s head coach, would need a work permit before moving to Old Trafford.

Sources have told ESPN that Rangnick may appoint a “small group” of his own coaching staff to work with Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna, both of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backing team.

Another of Solskjaer’s assistants, Michael Carrick, left the club after taking over the team’s three games before Rangnick was appointed interim coach until the end of the season.

Rangnick was asked the opportunity to bring his own staff to his official revelation before the victory at Crystal Palace, and he said it could take time to arrange meetings.

“I’m more than happy to work with the current coaching team because I need their experience, I need their expertise on the current team,” he said.

– Of course, I will try to find one, two, maybe three people who can join us in a week or two, but because of the Brexit regulations, it is not too easy.

“Many of my former colleagues, whether they are video analysts or assistant coaches, have long-term contracts with big clubs, so they aren’t available right now and we need to be a little smart and smart and find the right people.

“I hope we get them here in the next one or two weeks.”

Former midfielder Armas played 66 times in a USMNT match before finishing his career in 2007.

In 2008, he took over as assistant coach at Chicago Firen and has also worked at the New York Red Bulls as both assistant and head coach.

Rangnick was named Red Bull’s global football project manager in 2019.
