Boxing will continue in 2021. After a difficult 2020, when many stars either didn’t compete or only competed once, the new year has seen a handful of fighters already seen in the ring time with great success.

Look no further than the pound pound king himself, Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican superstar completed its conquest of the super-middle class with the pounding knockout of Caleb Plant in November and became the first undisputed champion in the history of that division. The explosive 12-month run, during which he won four massive victories, has already made him once again a fighter of the year.

And many members of the boxing community were amazed when WBA middleweight champion Yordenis Ugas overtook legend Manny Pacquiao to retain his title in August. Despite a last-minute fight over the injury to Errol Spence Jr., owner of the unified championship, many expected Pacquiao, 42, to be able to handle things against the Cuban. Pacquiao later announced he would stop boxing to focus on the presidential candidacy in his home country of the Philippines.

In addition, Oleksandr Usyk shocked many with his dazzling performance against Anthony Joshua to achieve a unified heavyweight championship. Usyk made the decision for the champion in London and threw a wrench into the plans for a heavy-duty pool match after Joshua invoked an automatic rematch.

As the end of the year approaches, boxing seems to be going explosively.

The light series continues its hot series in the last weeks of the year. After Geroge Kambosos made one of the biggest setbacks of the year, overtaking Teofimo Lopez at 135 to achieve a unified title, both Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis decided to be next in line to face the strong performance of the Aussies. Now the former undisputed champion, Vasiliy Lomachenko, will have a chance in the spotlight when he meets former champion Richard Commey on December 11th. In addition, WBC series champion Nonito Donaire will return the same night he meets Reymart Gaballo.
