Daniil Medvedev was unbeaten in the Davis Cup final and helped the Russian tennis league win their first championship in 15 years by winning Croatia 2-0 on Sunday.

A month after the Russians took the award in the Billie Jean King Cup final, Andrei Rublev defeated Borna Gojo and Medvedev played Marin Cilic to give the country two of the most prestigious awards in international team tennis.

This is the first time the Russian team has won the Davis Cup since 2006, and Medvedev said in his field interview: “It feels amazing, but I’m more happy with the team than myself.

“We have an amazing team, a great atmosphere, and I’m just happy to be a part of this team and be able to bring the points we need. Two weeks was amazing because it’s never easy to come here. At the end of the season. Two of the best weeks of my career.”

The Russians, who were banned from competing under their flag for anti-doping rule violations, secured their rankings as silverware.

The only team with two players in the top 10 of the doubles, the RTF side completed the work before Croatia had time to play their trump card in the top four of the doubles world, Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic.

Rublev has been a little unstable these two weeks, but he took shape in the Russian team’s semi-final victory over Germany and continued to do so here with the tournament revealed against Gojo.

Gojo, in 279th place, had won his previous three singles games against players who ranked significantly higher.

He again gave a good explanation of himself, but Rublev eventually proved too strong in the win 6-4 7-6 (7-5).

This laid the groundwork for US Open champion Medvedeville, who had not lost a single event, and again made an excellent performance, winning the Cilic 7-6 (9-7) 6-2.
