A graduate of Miami’s billionaire university wants to build a new football stadium in Coral Gables

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A wealthy supporter of the University of Miami is pushing for plans to build a new stadium near the school campus in Coral Gables.

She is a Cuban American who grew up in Miami, studied at the University of Miami and has three children graduated from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is also a billionaire.

Ruiz says he wants to build a brand new stadium in Coral Gables for the Hurricanes football team.

“I feel like over the years, the university that had this saliva has lost it,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz published the idea on social media, and it quickly spread to the virus.

He has since formed a committee with well-connected South Florida residents to implement the plan, and their first proposal is to place it on the site where Coral Gables Senior High School is currently standing, while upgrading the school.

“It’s in a very central location,” Ruiz said. “It’s not about taking away from what’s there, or its heritage, or taking away from children, I love children. I want to help children. “

However, not everyone is convinced that it is a good idea.

In fact, Raul Valdes-Fauli, the former mayor of Coral Gables, says he thinks there is little chance it would work there or in any city, and called the idea “stupid.”

“We don’t want Coral Gables in the middle of the stadium with the traffic it generates and the noise it causes, and it should go in the middle of a residential area,” Valdez-Fauli said.

Several Gables High alumni and current families have also expressed concern.

But Diana Diaz, a senior at Coral Gables High and a member of the Ruiz Committee, says their goal is not to cause upheaval, but to help improve the school and the surrounding area.

“This is about the positive impact the school has and the provision of resources for sports facilities and outdoor activities that are not currently available,” Diaz said.

If Ruiz gets his way, the plan is to build a stadium for Hurricanes as the center of a larger athletics center across the county and make Coral Gables High a world-class school as well.

This is, of course, still in its infancy, and so far nothing has even been presented to the city.
