Nigeria’s best player Joseph Imeh advanced to the second round of the 2021 Rainoil Tennis Championship, defeating Joseph Jimoh 4-0, 4-1.

Umeh, who is aiming for his fourth consecutive national title in the CBN, Dala and VEMP championships, did a light job for his opponent in less than an hour at Ikeja’s Lagos Country Club Center Court.

Also in the men’s singles, Wilson Igbinovia advanced to the second round yesterday by defeating Fortune Emmanuel 4-0, 5-3. The trio Michael Osewa, Chima Michael and Christopher Itodo also progressed, beating Gabriel Friday, Michael Akinmusiben and Matthew Abamun 5-4 (3), 5-3, 4-2 and 5-3, 5-3.

In the women’s singles, Angel McLeod was ruthless when he crushed Taiwo Afolab 4-0, 4-0 and Aanu Aiyegbusi dug deep to get ahead at the expense of Mary Udofia 4-2, 5-4 (6).

Destiny Okhinaye saw Toyosi Adeus 4-1, 4-2 to advance to the second round, as did Mary Tenu-Michael, who defeated Bunmi Arena 5-4 (7), 4-1.
