Villegas ’career night in Union Falls is not enough in Maine

ORONO, MAIN – A three-point night from the first year Caden Villegas wasn’t enough as the Union College men’s hockey team crashed to the University of Maine on Saturday night 4-3 at the Alfond Arena.

Villegas is the first newcomer to make a three-point game since January 3, 2020, when Gabriel Seger recorded three passes in St. Lawrence’s 5-4 overtime.

Second year student Chaz Smedsrud also recorded a multi-point night, scored the first goal and scored the entry point Matt Allen paint in the third installment. Senior Ryan Sidorski added a primary entry point to Smedsrud’s goal, giving the defender a two-point (0-2-2) weekend.

Union switched clutches in the third set when Villegas took the lead in the 1:38 last verse. Villegas cut Victor Ostman’s bad pass and took the Dutch one in. Less than six minutes later, Allen equalized the situation and turned the rebound into Ostman’s shoulder at 12:38.

Suthers scored their second goal in the game, and the game’s winning goal only changed 2:03 later.

The Union had a great opportunity to make a tie in the last six minutes of the game after the Danube Villeneuve-Houle was judged to be five minutes hard from the elbow, but the Dutch were unable to take advantage of it.

The Dutch made a season-long shot of 30 shots on the net, but still won 42-30, including 21 shots in the first set of Black Bears.

Murphy rebelled in a loss of 38 and Ostman rebounded in 27.

The Union will enjoy the holiday for a holiday before deciding the 2021 game on New Year’s Eve against the defending national champion Massachusetts. The disc drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Messa Rink.
