A large number of players from all over Fiji are expected to take part in the 2021 Fiji Table Tennis Association National Championships, which started at the FMF Gymnasium on Friday.
“We have played several raffles on the first day for those under 13, 15, 17 and 19, and on the first day we have had a good number of entrants and look forward to more as the tournament progresses,” said Chief Operating Officer Dhirish Kumar.
“We expect about 40-50 players to arrive.”
Kumar said they are looking for healthy competition and selections for next year’s Commonwealth Games are possible for most participating players.
“This event is the selection criteria for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and we expect to hold the Fiji Open early next year.
“Olympic Sally Yee is one of the key players expected to participate.”
Participating event, categories include open class, wheelchair and outpatient.
The tournament is sponsored and assisted by foreign Chinese in Fiji with the support of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Committee.
The tournament continues today.
