Three points from DG Joseph lead to a 6-0 victory for WBS

Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins (9-8-1-2) cut the losing streak for three games on Sunday afternoon. A couple of Pittsburgh Penguins future led by a farm team. Defender PO Joseph continued his hot series and WBS closed Springfield Thunderbirds 6-0 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Joseph, 22, led the WBS Penguins with a goal, two entry points and a plus-4 rating. He has six points in seven games after returning from a four-match period at the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Several potential Penguins players created passes. Nathan Legarella, Valterri Puustinen and Filip Hallander had one assistant.

Wilkes-Barre / Scranton took the lead early in the first period as Anthony Angello scored a short hand from Taylor Fedun’s shot. It was Angello’s first goal in his second AHL match this season. He played 19 games in the Pittsburgh Penguins last season.

Shortie was just the beginning for WBS Penguins. Two minutes into the second round, Félix Robert scored the sixth goal of the season. Six minutes later, Joseph was able to skate down the left wing and ceiling the puck over Colten Ellis, leading the WBS Penguins to a 3-0 lead.

Joseph was not ready. He and PTS signer at the Pittsburgh Penguins Training Camp Matt Bartkowski gave up and go, and Bartkowski tore the one-time game to a 4-0 lead. At the end of the second, Joseph fed Bartkowski to another disposable. Matt Olson blocked the shot, and the game was virtually over after WBS Penguins 5-0 in the 40th minute.

In the third episode, Penguins farmer Justin Almeida scored his first goal after leaving the COVID-19 protocol. He fell to his knees to score his first goal this season.

Goalkeeper Matt Jurisk, a former ECHL Idaho Steelheads, made his AHL debut with 28 fights. His first AHL victory and closure.

Joseph’s three-point night was the first multi-point game of the season; and his first win after making two passes in a 6-4 loss to Binghamton on May 5, 2021.

Wilkes-Barre / Scranton will return to the game on Tuesday as they host Hershey with a puck drop at 7:05 p.m.
